Mission/Purpose
North Street Urban Garden is a local foods project in
downtown Muncie. Located on the 300 block of East North
Street, (adjacent to Elm and Jefferson Streets),
participant's grow community and local organic food in a
vacant lot for our neighbors and local food kitchens.
We do it for educational
purposes; teaching and learning, sharing and growing. We
love having cook-outs, using our own organic vegetables as a
means to educate others about urban food production. It is a
living, tangible example for those interested in learning
more about local food, especially youth.
We currently work with the
Youth Opportunity Center's boys Trans life program where
young men have started plants from seed and planted them in
our garden. They have also helped with harvesting and
enjoying the bounty. We also wish to work with schools and
youth organizations by teaching youth how to garden and
applying that to life skills and their current curriculum's.
Our Volunteer’s aid people in establishing their own urban
gardens, and network like minds interested in building local
food infrastructures. |
